First Step in Home Electrification: Get a HOME ENERGY AUDIT

Before you consider rooftop solar or a home heat pump, make sure you get a home energy audit to examine your energy usage. This would include finding  places where you are losing energy from the attic or windows or walls. Getting attic insulation, a new roof, or caulking windows to reduce energy loss might be a good idea. Then a couple of months later you can examine your electric bill to determine how large a solar system you would need to fit your needs. Be sure to include future plans to replace your air conditioner or purchase an electric vehicle.

Do an internet search to find an independent energy auditor or get a referral from someone you know. An honest solar installer may be able to do an energy audit, but keep in mind that they will be biased toward selling you a large solar system
