The Moral Dimension of Climate Change

Morality is fundamentally about human social life. It’s a set of values and principles regarding how we treat others. We all know that, in a community of people, it’s important that we be caring and respectful toward our neighbors.

None of us would ever consider throwing our trash in our neighbor’s yard. This is simple and obvious. But when we burn gas in our cars, we are emitting carbon dioxide and methane that increase global warming and contribute to climate change. 

A molecule of methane takes only a few months to travel throughout the world, and it lives for 10 years before being broken down by oxidation. A molecule of carbon dioxide lasts thousands of years.

In this modern era we’re all neighbors – all over the world.
