Clean Energy is Cheaper than Natural Gas

Lifetime costs for utility-scale solar and wind power projects are only about half those for natural gas projects. While the upfront colts of solar and wind projects can be high, these costs are recouped over time.

Once built, the “fuel” for wind and solar is the sun, which is free, while natural gas power plants require continuous purchases of fuel. Solar and wind technologies will last for decades with minimal maintenance, unlike the machinery of thermal plants which can wear out.

Solar projects can be built almost anywhere where the sun shines, but natural gas plants must be built near sources of fuel.

China, which has been investing heavily in clean energy, is already seeing a payoff as it builds AI data centers that consume vast amounts of electricity.
